Prevention and treatment of Pouchitis: importance of post-operative follow-up of Ulcerative Colitis (UC)

In France, unlike other countries, only few UC patients can benefit from a dietary supplementation that is effective and valuable in their post-operative follow-up. It is a probiotic mix containing eight different strains of 450 billion bacteria per sachet, which has been the subject of more than 60 cliical studies and has proven its action in the prevention and treatment of pouchitis.1

This food supplement is commonly recommended in North America for this indication and reimbursed in the United Kingdom.

In fact 1/3 of patients suffering from ulcerative colitis will unfortunately face surgery at some stage of the disease. Experience shows that 18% of operated patients develop pouchitis within one year, and 50% within 10 years. 15% of these patients will then suffer from chronic pouchitis after a first episode.
